Over the last twenty years, the one question I am always asked is how much light do they cut out? And in many cases this leads to compromise in the design. Customers tend to fixate on the ability to fold the shutters back during the day and maximise light, whereas the reason for considering shutters is for privacy and light control in an attractive package. I consider shutters an attractive net curtain, and therein lies their growing appeal. Do people fold their net curtains back to maximise light? The answer is no, or at least not often. Instead of choosing busy concertina style shutters that fold back neatly, consider larger slats and simpler designs, minimising the shutter framework. Leave your shutters in place; they look great from inside and outside!
