Shutters

    Home Shutters

Southern Shutters offer a supply and installation service on our full range of bespoke shutters which are made from a variety of hardwoods. We operate in West Sussex and Hampshire and frequently install shutters in Chichester, Selsey and Southsea.

Shutters bring beauty and style to your interior and provide excellent light control and privacy, creating a sense of security and style in your home. When choosing a shutter style consider how you intend to use your shutters, as this will often dictate the right style for you. Perhaps you will use your shutters as an attractive net curtain, leaving them across the window to provide privacy and light, or you will fold your shutters back occasionally or on a daily basis. If the latter, you may want to open them all the way back to sit against your wall or window edge, or fold them towards the edge of the window in a concertina effect, so bear in mind the number of panels you have will have a bearing on how you will be able to use your shutters.

We are of course more than happy to talk you through the options, so do have a browse through our collection and give us a call.

    Arched & Circular Shutters

    Raked Shutters

Raked shutters have four sides and are required where the window meets the roof line. Shaped windows are beautiful features but are often difficult to furnish as fabrics hide the shape and bunch in corners. Custom shutters are a great solution and provide a practical long term investment. Highlight your windows shape as the original feature you intended.

    Tilting & Slat Options

In addition to being able to choose the style and number of shutters for your window you can also dictate the ‘Louver’ which is the slat size. Louver sizes available are 47mm, 64mm, 89mm and 115mm and your surveyor will bring a number of samples with him to help you picture the options.

The Tilt Rod is used to adjust the louver angle for light and privacy and you can decide whether to make it a feature of the Shutter or keep it hidden. The Regular option is the well known and traditional type tilt rod, regarded by many as the classic shutter look. The wooden tilt rod attaches to each louver via a small staple. Move the tilt rod to adjust all louvers for light and privacy. Alternatively, choose Open Sky, which is designed as a more discreet mechanism with an ultra-thin tilt rod mounted at the back and to the side of the shutter, making it virtually invisible from the room side. It provides an uncluttered contemporary look and gives an uninterrupted view through the shutter. Adjustment is made by moving one louver which in turn moves all. And they are easier to clean.

    Colours

Our standard colour palette has a great range of contemporary colours, including Whites and Off-Whites. If you fancy something different, choose from the Designer Range with bold greys and signature taupes, or add a touch of gloss for a really distinctive look.

All our finishes are UV treated and resistant to fading or ‘yellowing’. They are polyurethane coated and suitable for moist conditions such as Kitchens and Bathrooms. They are also durable, easy clean and low maintenance.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Q: Why shutters?

A: Shutters are smart, stylish and always in vogue. More than just a window dressing, they form part of your home and a fixture that adds value.

Q: How long do they take to install

A: Depending on the number of windows, most installations are carried out in one day. We take off our shoes on entry and hoover up on the way out too!

Q: how long do they last?

A: In normal conditions shutters will last for decades. Moisture resistant polyurethane paint is both tough and durable ensuring minimal maintenance.

    Q: Can they be repaired.

Unlike MDF, wooden shutters can easily be repaired. We carry a stock of parts in the event of damage.

Q: do they provide insulation ?

Being solid wood, shutters are good insulators and the neat framing also serves to hold back cold air that forms around glazed areas.

Q: How long is a survey

A: again, this depends on the number of windows you require measuring, but surveys can be as long or short as you wish. We have a no pressure and no obligation philosophy; A practice that seems to be appreciated by the many repeat customers we have.
